Pilot Genoa Vallescriviva

genoa-masterplan-vallescrivia - 183729.1

The pilot project is an action plan that deals with a number of interventions in the urban areas and wants to characterise a hierarchy of policies that will be object of specific planning by Public Authorities.

An important issue is the improvement of natural and built heritage in the Scrivia valley. Scrivia river is the leading wire linking all the municipalities. At present, in Scrivia valley a collection of separate and different needs coming from specific contexts seems to be on stage; the idea is looking at the river as the linkage (not only physically) for a complex and coordinate project of improvement of the area. Green areas, sports facilities, pedestrian ways, bike paths, built historical heritage, located along the river, are the components of the physical task of the project.

From a detailed analysis of the existing elements, and of their state of conservation, made with the important support of local associations, it has been possible achieving a scheme of resources available and a sort of SWOT analysis. The involvement of the local communities comes achieved through meetings with the most relevant operating categories in the territory (cultural associations, sports associations, economic operator as traders or restaurants, etc) together with municipalities and Mountain Community Authority.

The main issue is building the goals of the project getting ideas directly from the needs of local people: in this way they could feel “Vallescriviva” as their project, valuable for the whole valley and not only for the municipality they come from. As the needs are, most of times, integrated: they want not only a physical structure, but the organisation that allow them enjoying these facilities and, in general terms, they want a better quality of life, the social task of the project deals with the co-ordination of the policies of Public Authorities and private stakeholders that are implemented in the area, with the aim to create a permanent network where facilities, information, opportunities can be achieved in a shared way.

Therefore Provincia di Genova wants to integrate programs and actions put forward by their departments while municipalities and Mountain Community Authority agree the hierarchy of possible interventions to be developed. The expected goal of the project is that the tangible result of a better natural environment and of new facilities can achieve a new imagine of the context of the valley, where local people can feel more self-confidence, and integrate themselves as a joint, happy community.
